Within Cangxian (Cang County), in the province of Hebei, is a village called Sanbo. This village is the home of the Yip Clan. During the Qing Dynasty and the rule of Guangxu, in the year of 1892, a boy was born and given the name of Yuting. It was in this small village that the story of a great master began....
During his time in Hong Kong, Great Grand Master Yip taught numerous students. Just as in current times, some were hobbyists who happened to pass through at SCAA while others were good students but just didn't keep along the path of My Jhong Law Horn. Then there are those few who heeded the call to follow in the footsteps of the Great Grand Master.
I have been fortunate to have met and learned from three of those current masters. First, my own Sifu, Grand Master Johnny Lee, then two of his classmates, Grand Master C.H. Marr, and Grand Master Raymond Wong.
Douglas Opbroek began training in My Jhong Law Horn with
Master Johnny Lee at Lee’s White Leopard Kung Fu School in
Shreveport, Louisiana in 1988.
Within a short time, Sifu Opbroek was convinced that My Jhong
Law Horn was much more than a martial art, and he immediately
became interested inMJLHhistory and heritage. He listened intently
as Master Lee and Master Marr told stories about their Sifu, Great
GrandMasterYip.He found himselfwriting out these stories, along
with themasters’ explanations of the traditions, forms, and fighting
prowess of MJLH. Realizing so much of this history was only
preserved by these oral stories, he knew one day he wanted to play
a part in preserving these stories for future generations.
